Understanding VPS Backups and Snapshots

Data Protection Strategies

Protecting your data is critical. On a Arh24.com VPS, you have multiple layers of data protection available. Understanding the difference between backups and snapshots is key to an effective strategy.

Server Snapshots

A snapshot is an instantaneous, point-in-time image of your entire server, including the operating system, all applications, and all your data. They are managed through your Arh24.com client area.

  • Best For: Major system changes. Before running a large OS update or installing complex software, taking a snapshot allows you to instantly roll back the entire server to its previous state if something goes wrong.
  • Limitations: Snapshots are not a long-term backup solution. Only a limited number (usually 1 or 2) can be stored at a time, and they are stored on the same physical hardware as your VPS. They do not protect against hardware failure.

Application-Level Backups

This is the most important type of backup. This involves you, or a control panel like Plesk, creating a copy of your specific website files and databases and storing them securely.

  • Best For: Granular recovery and long-term storage. If a single website is compromised or you accidentally delete a file, you can restore just that site or file without affecting the whole server.
  • Implementation: You can configure these backups using tools within Plesk, cPanel, or custom scripts. It is highly recommended to store these backups on a separate, off-site location like cloud storage.
The Best Strategy: Use both! Take a snapshot before a major server change, and maintain regular, automated application-level backups stored off-site for daily disaster recovery. This provides a comprehensive data protection plan.
